CHAMPs Facilitator Training

Prerequisite:
School-based teams of exceptional and general education teachers to facilitate training at school site.

Target Audience: ~Exceptional education teachers PK-12
~General education teachers who work with students with disabilities PK-12

CHAMPs (Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation) is a modular series designed to help classroom teachers, develop (or fine tune) an effective classroom management plan that is proactive and positive. The techniques included in CHAMPs have been derived from research literature and are based on the following principles:

~ Classroom organization has a huge impact on student behavior.
~Teachers should overtly teach students how to behave responsibly in every classroom situation.
~Teachers should focus more time, attention, and energy on acknowledging responsible behavior than on responding to misbehavior.
~Teachers should preplan their responses to misbehavior to ensure they will respond in a brief, calm and consistent manner.

School teams will be expected to implement the program at their school site, as well as participate in follow-up activities.
