Learning Strategies is one component of the Strategic Instruction Model® (SIM) from the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. The Learning Strategies Curriculum is designed for secondary students with learning difficulties who are seeking a standard diploma. The curriculum helps students cope effectively with curricular demands and to generalize their use of new skills to a variety of settings including general education classes, home and employment settings.
Learning Strategy instruction focuses on making the student a more active learner by teaching students how to learn skills and content, how to effectively use what has been learned and how to perform tasks independently. Students who can read at the 4 th grade level and above are most successful with Learning Strategies instruction.
